In lieu of the assiduous, laborious, industrious, unflagging, punctilious and sedulous efforts of the Commandant – General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,  (CG) Ahmed Abubakar Audi Phd mni, to rejig, reposition, revamp and re – invigorate the Corps, the Commandant – General’s Monitoring team of Private Guard(security) Companies, which was inaugurated by the Commandant – General,  at the National Headquarters in Abuja, led by Assistant Commandant – General Raji Ibrahim Adedoyin Msc fsfs, landed in Lagos on Monday, 26th July, 2021, to flag off the Monitoring team’s operations in Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria.

The Assistant Commandant – General, (ACG) Raji Ibrahim Adedoyin Msc fsfs, who led the Commandant – General’s Monitoring team on Private Guard Companies to Lagos was  well received, by the Commandant, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro, MSC ACMA, CNA, at the State Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Assistant Commandant – General (ACG) PRIVATE GUARD COMPANIES’ DEPARTMENT (PGC) NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS ABUJA, ACG Raji, who appreciated the Commandant for the receptive welcome he received in Lagos, while addressing the officers and men at the pavilion, in the the State Command at 14:45hrs on Monday, 26th July, 2021, also stated the purpose of his visit in the state. The Assistant Commandant – Genaral, said that the Commandant – General, (CG) Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Phd mini, sent him to Lagos, amongst other things to meet with the stakeholders  and licensed practioners in the Private Security Industry, knowing fully well that Lagos houses a larger percentage of the Private Security Companies in the nation. He added that the Commandant – General’s Monitoring Team of Private Guard(Security) Companies, which was inaugurated at the National Headquarters, was also conceived to be flagged off in Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria. “The idea of kicking off the Commandant – General’s ( PGC) Monitoring Team in Lagos was conceived because of the significance of the state to the practice of Private Security Companies in the nation,” the (ACG) said.

The Assistant Commandant – General who had a stakeholders meeting with the executive members of the association and some executives of a few number of Private Security Companies in the state on Tuesday, 27th July, 2021, presented his speech to the stakeholders, which seemed to resolve most of the challenges being faced by the practitioners in the Private Security industry and he further enumerated the plans of the Corps to expand the industry in Nigeria, so as to ensure that the industry becomes in tandem with renowned international and global  standards, in the practice of Private Security.

The President of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria ( ALPSPN), Barr. Wilson Esangbedo( MD Chiguards LTD) and the Chairman Lagos Zone, Mr. Babatunde Mumuni ( MD Nisco Security Company LTD) who spoke on behalf of the association and other executives at the stakeholders meeting, appreciated the efforts of the Commandant – General, towards the expansion of the Private Security industry in Nigeria. The President of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria ( ALPSPN), Barr. Wilson Esangbedo also informed the Assistant Commandant – General in-charge-of Private Guard Company (PGC) Department, of their cordial relationship and synergetic collaboration with the Corps, which has been like a marriage that can not be divorced, using the great and eloquent words of the Commandant – General, in one of his meetings with him at the National Headquarters in Abuja.

The Chairman of the Associate, Lagos Zone, Mr Babatunde Mumuni also expressed his great working relationship with the (PGC) in Lagos State Command. He also avowed the Association’s   unalloyed support to the Corps in Lagos, in the area of assisting it with vital intelligence information, which can further help to reduce or avert the spread of criminalities and insecurity in the state. He also said that the private security companies in Lagos are also doing very greatly.

Furthermore,  the Assistant Commandant – General, visited some private security companies, without their prior knowledge, during the operation of the Monitoring team yesterday, Wednesday, 28th July, 2021, in Lagos. Some of the Companies visited, in Lagos, yesterday, included Turret International Services Ltd, Festamos Security Services Nigeria, Proton Security Services Ltd and Halogen Security Company. The Monitoring team from Abuja, which was also expanded in the state, included Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro,  Assistant Commandant Yamah Blessing (2ic  Private Guard Company Department in Lagos State Command), other officers and men of the department in the Command and Assistant Superintendent of Corps I Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide ( Public Relations Officer of the Command).

The Assistant Commandant – General, (ACG) Raji Ibrahim Adedoyin, and the Monitoring team, in one of the private security companies, visited, yesterday, found Festamos Security Services Nigeria wanting, of non – renewal of license as at when due and other irregularities against the law. The highly experienced, combatant and combat ready (ACG) also re – iterated that the Corps exhibits zero tolerance towards non – compliance with the rules and regulations of government, guiding the Private Guard (security) Companies’ operations in Nigeria. The (ACG) said that the security company sealed will be subjected to further investigation and will be sanctioned accordingly, if found guilty of further suspected offences.

However, the Assistant Commandant – General ( ACG) Raji advised the private security companies to remain compliant with statutory rules and regulations guiding the establishment of private guard security companies in the nation . He said the Corps frowns at any form of non – compliance. The (ACG) also warned the practitoners to desist from any form of quackery in the practice, as that will be considered as a form of economic sabotage capable of reducing government revenue and shortchanging law abiding stakeholders in the industry. The (ACG) said that the Corps will not hesitate to bring the quacks in the industry to book as there shall be no room to tolerate such act moving forward.

The Assistant Commandant – General ( ACG) Raji reiterated the assiduous efforts of the Commandant – General (CG) Ahmed Abubakar Audi Phd mmi, to expand  the private security Industry in Nigeria to be in tandem with the best international and global standards. The Assistant Commandant – General said that the Corps will give the necessary impetus needed to expand the industry, within the confines of the law and the Corps’ statutory functions and duties. He also charged the Association and all licensed private security practitioners  to remain law abiding and endeavour to also assist the Corps and the State Commands where they operate with intelligence information and reports  of criminals, criminals’ blackspots and their hideouts. He said that the guards can also be proactive in giving out useful and truthful information that may be used to suppress internal security challenges due to the fact that they live closely with the people at the community level, offices, markets, malls, shops, schools, religious places and centres, gardens and parks, and eateries etc. He said security is a collective business and he charged them to say something when they see something, so that we can all overcome our security challenges, which we are all being faced with today, in the country together.
