The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Dr Bamidele Ekunola, has disagreed with Governor Kayode Fayemi over the continuity of what was obtained under his administration which would round off on October 15.

Ekunola, who alleged that hardship for the populace owing to the abandonment of responsibility by the governor was the hallmark of the Fayemi administration, said handing over to somebody that would toe the line would mean the multiplication of the problems in the state.

The SDP chairman, who said his party was before the election petition tribunal in the state to retrieve the party’s stolen mandate, spoke to Saturday PUNCH in reaction to a statement by Fayemi during the 2022 Udiroko Festival in Ado Ekiti.

Fayemi had at the festival said the people would witness the beauty of continuity in government in the incoming administration of Biodun Oyebanji which would be inaugurated on October 16, assuring that the governor-elect would continue and build on the successes of his administration.

“I am happy to leave you in the safe hands of Biodun Oyebanji who was part of the successes of our administration. Ekiti people will see the beauty of continuity we have been clamouring for in Oyebanji government because we have no doubt about his capabilities to deliver,” Fayemi had said.

But the SDP chairman, who said Fayemi failed in all areas, added, “We are not satisfied with his performance. Fayemi has not impressed us. People voted for him to serve, but he did not stay at home as a governor. He has been operating under the influence of Nigerian Governors’ Forum and he abandoned his expected role in Ekiti as governor. We did not feel his impact.

“Fayemi has not performed well and he is planning to hand over to a puppet, who won’t be able to perform and will be wasting the little resources of the state on his godfather. Handing over to Oyebanji would mean to multiply the problems in Ekiti State – suffering, starvation, stagnation. The agony is much already,” Ekunola said.
