The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Chief Ikechi Emenike, has named Rev Gloria Akara as his running mate.
According to a statement on Sunday, Akara from Ukwa East Local Government Area, was unveiled at a meeting of Bende Local Government APC stakeholders at Item, Abia North zone.
The statement noted that the APC is the only party among the leading four parties in the state that has a female governorship running mate.
It listed other leading political parties in the state to include the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Labour Party.

The statement quoted Emenike as saying that by choosing a woman as his running mate, he has demonstrated that “in the APC, we don’t just preach gender equity, we practise it.”
In her acceptance speech, Akara described Emenike’s candidature as “an answer to prayer.”
She pledged to work with Emenike and support “this noble and most laudable cause (of rescuing and developing Abia) wholeheartedly.”
Earlier, the state chairman of Abia APC, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, assured the governorship candidate that Bende Local Government would live up to its status as “a strong base of the APC.”
