The Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, counselled the graduating medical students of LASUCOM, to go into the world with their heads raised up high and exercise diligence, excellence and compassion in the discharge of their duties. Prof. Fabamwo gave this advice during the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) Induction Ceremony of 16th Set of Graduating Medical Doctors and 6th Set of Graduating Dental Surgeons at the LASUCOM Auditorium on Friday, 18th of March, 2022.
While giving his remarks, the CMD assured the inductees that things will work out for them if they put in the hardwork required, even though the stark reality of the profession may pose different levels of challenges. He also revealed that the hospital management will be offering sixteen (16) automatic Housemanship slots based on merit to the new doctors, while other graduands will have to compete with other graduates from other institutions for the remaining positions.
The Acting Provost of LASUCOM, Professor Mobolaji Oludara, in his welcome address, applauded the graduands for burning the midnight oil to get to this point. He charged the inductees to ensure that they make an impact in the society as they discharge their duties to humanity.
In his motivational speech and welcome address into the medical profession, the Medical Elder of the day, Professor Olugbenga Awobusuyi, who is a Consultant Nephrologist and Head Nephrology Unit in LASUTH, told the Inductees, that the most important thing in this world is to leave it better than they met it.
He said, it is important to focus on the four domains of emotional intelligence which he listed as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management, “this will distinguish you as high-flyers”, he said. He also encouraged the inductees of the day to carve a niche for themselves, find a mentor and be financially literate.
