Following the viral video of a mother on social media who was seen crying out for help on behalf of her son who is currently receiving expert care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and in a commendable display of leadership and concern for the welfare of the people, the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, today, paid an unscheduled visit to LASUTH to assess and support the expert management. The patient had a corrective surgery in LASUTH on 14th July, 2023 following referral from a private hospital where he had two (2) previous surgeries.

This visit not only highlights the governor’s commitment to healthcare but also serves as an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of LASUTH in providing quality medical services.

The management and staff of LASUTH have consistently demonstrated their dedication towards improving healthcare delivery in Lagos State. Our expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and compassionate approach have made us a trusted institution for corrective surgeries. The governor’s visit further reinforces our importance within the community.

By personally visiting LASUTH, the governor sends a strong message that he values accessible and high-quality healthcare for all residents. This gesture not only boosts morale among hospital staff but also encourages them to continue striving for excellence in patient care.

Furthermore, this visit provided another opportunity for the mother to explain her understanding of the care, both at LASUTH and the private hospital. She stated in clear terms that she is not out to blackmail the State Government but only crying out for assistance.

Consequently, the Governor engaged both the mother and the managing consultant in a constructive dialogue and promised to pay for the care of the patient as it was clear from the viral video that the mother is struggling financially.

The child is still under our care and we will continue to provide expert care even as we await the outcome of ongoing investigation by appropriate authorities.

In conclusion, the management and staff of LASUTH appreciate Mr Governor for his visit and consistent investment in healthcare services.
