Stop Restricting Movement Over Tradition, Osun Monarch Warns Traditionalists

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on traditional worshippers to move cult activities to the bush and stop restricting movement.

The monarch, in a statement on Wednesday, said such activities posed a threat to national growth and development.

He said, “Students may have to catch up with promotional examinations, and someone travelling out will struggle to catch a flight while workers have a definite time for resuming official duty.

What will be the fate of an emergency patient being rushed to the hospital for immediate attention when occult ritualists have restricted movement?

Any religious practices restricting movement should be moved and done in the bush where people don’t live. National growth and development are being threatened by freedom curtailment.”

There was a recent crisis in Ile-Ife, Osun State after Oro adherents and Muslims fought over religious rivalry.

A chief imam, Abdul-Lateef Adediran, and several others were injured during the clash, which sparked a protest in the town.

The disagreement reportedly started after the Oro adherents, while carrying a sacrifice, passed a road leading to the community mosque, an act that was resisted by the Muslims.
