The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has called for diligence in the investigation to unravel the cause of the sudden death of the fast-rising Afrobeats singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Adediran said the circumstances that led to the death of the 27-year-old singer and the public outcry afterward, was a blow to the image of the country’s music industry.

He urged that law enforcement agencies should unravel the truth by carrying out a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure justice is adequately served.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the Head of Media and Communications for JANDOR4GOVERNOR Campaign Organization, Gbenga Ogunleye.

He claimed that the announcement of Mohbad’s death was shrouded in secrecy and foul play with widespread allegations of complicity in some key players in the music industry.

The statement partly read, “Adediran described the unfortunate incident and the attendant public outcry on attempts to cover up the matter as a huge drawback to the entertainment industry in the country. He advocated that law enforcement agencies need to unravel the truth and ensure no case of injustice is allowed by carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

“He laments the untimely death of such a budding talent and the anxiety among music fans on the perceived dangers and shady undercutting going on in the entertainment industry. “This is a big blow to the image of our music industry,” he said.

“JANDOR however commiserates with the family and fans of late Mohbad and wishes them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

A reliable source had earlier reported that Mohbad, a former signee to Marlian Records owned by Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, died in Lagos State on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest in Ikorodu a day after.

While the Lagos State Police Command had constituted a 13-man panel to investigate the actual cause of his death, the governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had also invited the Department of State Services to join in the probe.

Sanwo-Olu, who mourned the passing of the late singer on Tuesday vowed that anyone found culpable would be made to face the wrath of law after the conclusion of investigations.

He added that the state government had been “closely working behind the scenes with relevant authorities and keenly following the ongoing investigations.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, had also said, “Everybody linked to it (the death of Mohbad) will be identified and they will be brought to establish their level of involvement.”
