National Association Of Otorhinolaryngology Nurses Holds Annual Conference In Lagos

The National Association of Otorhinolaryngology Nurse Practitioners of Nigeria all gathered in Lagos to celebrate the 8th Annual Conference at the Faculty of Basic Medical Science Auditorium of the Lagos State College of Medicine [LASUCOM], hosted by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

The week-long event witnessed activities which include; medical outreach on ear screening and test, within the LASUTH AND LASUCOM community, series of insightful lectures for participants, and award ceremony/luncheon.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Lagos State, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, who was represented by the Director of Nursing Services, Ministry of Health, Lagos State, Mrs. Dorcas Shonibare, applauded the Otorhinolaryngology Nurses of Nigeria for organizing such an event at this time. She noted the importance of paying attention to good health as she noted that noise pollution can be managed if certain measures are implemented. She also mentioned that it is worthy of note to celebrate the Nigerian Nurses that are still in the country, working assiduously in the health sector. She concluded by encouraging them to hold the fort because there would be sunshine at the end of the tunnel.

The National Chairman, Comrade Magaji Bako Jonathan in his opening remark, welcomed members of the National Association of Otorhinolaryngology Practitioners of Nigeria while making emphasis on the need for the public to curb noise pollution “because it can be detrimental to the health and environment”, he said.

The Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital [LASUTH] and Chief Host of the Scientific Conference, Prof Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, who was ably represented by Dr. Adegbenga Ademolu, in his goodwill message, reiterated that the world order has changed and in recent times, more attention has been drawn to the issue of noise pollution, which has become a menace that should be tackled heads on. He highlighted ways by which this can be handled which includes, the use of right measures and strategies involving collaboration between governments bodies, industries and the public.

The Vice Chairman of the National Executives of the association and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mrs. Morenike Abiodun-Ajayi in her speech, said that the topic of the day is timely and focused on enlightening and educating the populace. She went ahead to say that, it is worthy to mention that need for government to collaborate with all Nurses in Lagos State and by extension Otorhinolaryngology Nurse practitioners of Nigeria, so as to eradicate noise pollution in the environment as the dangers and complications from noise pollution in the environment could be life threatening if not well managed and this can affect the wellness of our patients, which is paramount in Lagos State.
