The chairman of Ijebu East local government area of Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, has been arrested by Police over a petition allegedly written against him by the State Government.

A reliable source recalls that the remaining local government council chairmen in the State apologised to the State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, over Adedayo’s allegations.

The local government chairmen, who besieged the Governor’s office to ask for his forgiveness on behalf of Hon. Adedayo, regretted their action and openly prostrated and begged the governor for forgiveness.

Responding, Governor Abiodun declared that he had always carried out his responsibilities as the governor with “every sincerity of purpose”.

Also, in a petition which Adedayo forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), the embattled local government chairman had demanded for a probe of the governor over alleged diversion of local government funds.

But, the governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, on Tuesday, said he had never tampered with local government funds.

Adedayo was later suspended by the seven councillors of his local government council following allegations against the governor, and also held and grilled for three days by the State Command of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Abeokuta.

He was allegedly impeached on September 14 by five out of eleven councillors in the local government legislative Council.

Adedayo, on Monday, disclosed his arrest by the police via a Facebook post on his timeline, adding that he was ready to die for the cause.

“Son of man is being taken to Ogun State Police CID at Eleweran, Abeokuta. They claim the State Government wrote a petition against me. If it is death, I follow the path of the Patriarchs. Ase di owo Olodumare!,” he wrote.

However, Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said she was not aware of the arrest.
