…Declares Methodist Church Mainland Diocese Open
Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwoolu urged religious leaders to preach the message of hope,brotherliness,unity,integrity,and religious tolerance.
Speaking while declaring open the 27th Annual Synod of Methodist Church Nigeria Diocese of Lagos Mainland Folawiyo Bankole Memorial Ikate, the governor said religious leaders and the congregation to be an ambassadors of peace,promoting mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among people.
Represented by the special adviser on religious matters Very Reverend Bukola Adeleke, the Governor said “My Charge to the church is to humble themselves and cryout to God to deliver us from the various unrest and conflicts going on in our nation.
He congratulated the Archbishop Diocese of Lagos,The Most Reverend Obafemi Adeleye (Jp) and the Lay president and all the presbyters,clergy,laity and members of the diocese on the successful commencement of the 27th Synod,which he described as a commendable milestone.
On the theme “Watch And Pray” taken from the book of Matthew 26 Vs 41,the governor said was a charge to disciples who needed to stay awake and pray because they were about to be tested.
The Governor further used 1 Thessalonians 5:17 as an example that we should ‘Pray without ceasing that is,we must be persistent and consistent in prayer.
The Governor assured the church that his government remain committed to the goal of making the economy work;create opportunities for everyone to actualise his/her potentials and also ensuring of lives and property of all Lagosians.
The governor was presented with a gift by the wife of the Archbishop of Lagos Mainland Mrs Adeleye.
