Owing to the current economic realities, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Monday advised Muslims to celebrate this year’s Eid-el Kabir festival moderately.

Oba Akanbi, who urged them not to deplete their earnings during the festival, charged privileged Nigerians to reach out to the less-privileged and assist them with whatever they have, for them to also have the feel of the celebrations.
The monarch spoke at his palace in Iwo, Osun State while giving out cash donations to his subjects to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on petrol and to enable them to celebrate the Eid festival with their loved ones.
The royal father, who noted that the gesture would go a long way in helping residents of Iwo town to have a memorable celebration, said the money was also a form of palliative, even though the government was still being expected to give out assistance to cushion effects of subsidy removal.

He further said, “I want to appeal to our Muslim brothers to celebrate this festival within their capacity. They should not go beyond what they can afford just to satisfy some people. We want to help our people no matter how small. We spent millions this morning and it is just to make the people happy in this time of subsidy removal.
“The government can not do everything. So we are trying to create palliative for our people before the government comes up with their palliative.
“With this money, people can buy things for their family. We have seen some people with businesses that are not more than N10,000. So, this money will go a long way in helping them.”
